Zoom Zoom Zoom!

As most of you probably know, Dave and I got a new car this week... and in 5 years it will be all ours!!!!!!

Our very first brand new car, and we are both very excited! It's a Mazda 3 SP23, and it's as-red-as-red-can-be with a rather swish black leather interior. It's an ActiveMatic, which means it's an automatic with the option of manually changing the gears (but without a clutch).

This photo I took as we were leaving the car dealership...

Today we went for a bit of a Zoom Zoom up through the Dandenong's (as you do when you have a new car), and I took these pics when we stopped at one of the lookouts....

Pretty cool, huh?!!

Clare Bowditch @ The Corner

On Tuesday night, Dave and I went to a charity BBQ/concert at the Corner Hotel in Richmond. The night was put on by Clare Bowditch and her band The Feeding Set. I'm a bit of a fan of Clare's, so it's probably fair to say that, yes, once again, I dragged Dave along to another girly concert.

Doors opened at 6:30, so we high-tailed it home from work, got ready and headed out. We were there by about 7 and joined the queue to get in. Once in, we got our arms stamped (which is always fun), and headed up to the rooftop area where the BBQ was being held.

As we were getting our bearings and wandering over to get a drink so as to feel a little less out of place, we nearly bumped into a pregnant young lady, who just happened to be Clare Bowditch herself! "Hi" I said, and she said "Hello" and we continued on our respective ways. "Um, Dave, that was actually Clare...". "Really?" Well that was weird, we thought.

We got ourselves some drinks and stood around trying to blend in (we've never been to a gig at a pub before), while waiting for the BBQ to be ready. The weirdness of running into Clare became less weird after a while, as she wandered past us many more times as she made her way from table to table saying hello to different people she knew and between trips to the "Ladies" (as is the way with pregnant women, or so I'm told!). It was actually a really nice family feeling - it sort of felt like you had somehow managed to get an invite to a BBQ at her place.

The BBQ was provided by a spit-roast catering company, and when it was ready, Clare wandered about letting us all know that the 'grub' was up, so we all joined the queue. Well, we had our meal (or at least I had a meal), and started wondering to ourselves when the concert would begin, which really was our reason for being there. It was about 8pm when I noticed a run-sheet for the evening posted up. Clare wasn't going to start singing until 10pm!!!! And this was a weeknight, and I'm one of the "early to bed" kind of people! Oh dear!

Anyway, between then and 10, we were kept entertained by a film about the charity the event was in aid of - KOTO - and then a short set by another young female singer-songwriter named Jess McAvoy who was really good and helped the time go by. Jess was just introducing us to what would be her last song of the evening, when Clare called in from the side requesting that she make it her second last as she was suffering a little indigestion (these pregnant people, I don't know!).

After Jess finished her set, we had to wait another 30 minutes before Clare and The Feeding Set finally took the stage. Boy was I glad that I decided to go with comfortable shoes! It was worth the wait - the show was really good. And we all forgave her the delays when we found out that she is carrying twins. Clare's voice was really beautiful, but huskier than usual as she had apparently lost her voice completely earlier that day! But the show went on, and she made it through the set.

All in all, (aside from all the waiting around) it was a fantastic night!! Another one of those nights, when you can't help but think to yourself what a fantastic city we live in.
